The Somnath temple, also named Samantha temple or Deo Patan, is a Hindu temple situated in Prabhas Patan, Veraval in Gujarat, India. It is one of the most holy journey sites for Hindus and is supposed to be first among the twelve jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva the temple was recreated numerous times in the past after recurrent destruction by multiple Muslim attackers and rulers, notably preliminary from an attack by Mahmud Ghazni in the 11th century. It is uncertain when the first version of the Somnath temple was constructed with approximations varying between the early periods of the 1st-millennium to about the 9th-century CE

Many Hindu texts deliver a list of the holiest Shiva pilgrimage sites, along with a guide for visiting and the mythology overdue each site. The best known were the Mahatma genre of texts. Somnath temple tops the list of jyotirlingas in the Jnana Samhita – chapter 13 of the Shiva Purana, and the oldest known text with a list of jyotirlingas.

 Other texts cover the Varanasi Mahatma (found in Skanda Purana), the Shatarudra Samhita and the Kothirudra Samhita. All either straight mention the Somnath temple as the number one of twelve sites, or call the top temple as “Somesvara” in Saurashtra – an identical term for this site in these texts. The careful date of these texts is unknown, but founded on references they make to other texts and early poets or scholars, these have been usually dated between the 10th- and 12th century, with some courting it much earlier and others a bit later.

Somnath means “Lord of the Soma” or “moon”. The place is also named Prabhasa Somnath temple has been a jyotirlinga location for the Hindus, and a holy place of trip. It is one of five most respected sites on the shoreline of India, along with the nearby Dvaraka in Gujarat, Puri in Odisha, Rameshwar and Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu.

When Patel, K. M. Munshi and other influences of the Congress went to Mahatma Gandhi with their suggestion to rebuild the Somnath temple, Gandhi sacred the move but recommended that the funds for the building should be together from the public, and the temple should not be sponsored by the state. He stated that he was pleased to secondary himself to the project of the makeover of the temple. However, soon both Gandhi and Sardar Patel expired, and the task of rebuilding the temple was sustained under Munshi, who was the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Government of India headed by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

The shells were pulled down in October 1950. The mosque present at that site was removed a few kilometers away by using construction vehicles. On 11 May 1951, Rajendra Prasad, the first President of the Republic of India, as requested by K M Munshi, achieved the connection ceremony for the temple.

The Somnath temple place and coast has been mined for archaeological indication by Indian teams. The first main dig was completed in 1950–51 just before the Somnath temple was rebuilt. It was led by B. K. Thapar, one of the Director General of the Archeologic Survey of India, and a report is available. This Thapar study produced direct and considerable evidence of a 10th-century or previous large temple. Thapar projected the older temple to be from the 9th century, while Dhak conditions according to the 10th century, (from 960 to 973 CE). The Thapar education also found objects and ruins with olden scripts such as Brahmi and later writings such as proto-Nagari and Nagari, thus positive the ancient times of Somnath-Patan through at least much of the 1st-millennium

The coast temple of Somnath is supposed to have been built in 4 phases-in gold by Lord Soma, in silver by Ravi, in wood by lord Krishna, and in stone by King Bhima deva.

The temple contains Garbhagriha, Sabha mandap, and Nrityamandap with a 155F feet high Shikhar. The Kalash at the top of the Shikhar masses 10 tons and the Dhwajdand is 27 feet high and 1 foot in the perimeter.

Hari Har Tirth Dham in Somnath is the holy home of Lord Shri Krishna’s Neejdham Prasthan Leela. The room where Lord Shri Krishna was won by an arrow from a poacher is known as Bhalka Tirth.

After being hit by the projectile, Lord Shri Krishna arrived at the holy meeting of Hiran, Kapila, and Saraswati and their Sangam with the ocean. He achieved his divine Neejdham Prasthan Leela at the holy and peaceful banks of river Hiran.

The 7th current temple is built in the Kailas Mahameru Prasad style. The Iron man of India Sardar Shri Vallabhbhai Patel is the innovator of the present temple.

Suggestion

One of the best involvements visiting this royal temple. It’s truly a sacred feeling to be here. The temple existence so close to the Arabian Sea makes the knowledge truly awesome. While taking Darshan you can texture some inner feelings which has a comforting influence. An important point to note is that you will need to deposit your possessions like the beauty of this temple is mesmerizing. Amazing artwork and design. The situation around and outside of this temple is also very good. Purse, leather items, and mobiles in the lockers before incoming the temple. The same goes for footwear too. Digital gadgets are not allowable inside the buildings, there is a digital locker ability right at the entrance of the shrine. There are numerical lockers are available to keep our things safe at a decent price. You should not miss Arati at 7 AM, 12 PM, and 7 PM. And also, there is a laser show that will be shown around 8 PM-8:45 PM about history of temple. We are essential to take a ticket at 30 rupees per person. Very beautiful mesmeric temple nearby the ocean. The Temple is constructed at a beautiful location.

There is hygiene very well and if your attitude on the back of it, you will catch the water which is very enjoyable. There is only one problem shoe organization is not good everybody keeps their shoes everywhere rather than in the rack by trust since no one tells them and the rack is on the corner not effortlessly noticeable
