Introduction

One of the best places to visit in Pochury, or even in Nagaland. Let me tell you this: You don’t need to plan to stay there for more than 2 days because that’s enough time to see everything. Apart from the lake, there are other interesting spots to check out; Naziipfii Peak, Avangkhu or the International Trade Centre, and a beautiful view near Washelo. On the way to Shilloi Lake, you might want to stop by the only Cement Factory in Nagaland, which is the Waziho Cement Factory. If you’re an adventurer, I recommend using an off-road vehicle or a bike. The road to Shilloi Lake is unpredictable due to poor maintenance.

 The roads are mostly in bad condition and your vehicle should have a minimum clearance of 180. Don’t expect to reach the destination and return safely with a low-clearance vehicle. For bikers, it’s manageable but depends on your riding skills. There’s a risk of accidents due to stone pebbles on the road. It’s an adventurous place but comes with risks. The last gas station is in Meluri, which is over 150 kilometers away from Shilloi Lake. If your vehicle has good fuel efficiency, it won’t be a problem. Remember to bring necessary medicines for safety. You can pay rent through net banking or cash. If you need help, don’t hesitate to ask the locals as they are friendly and helpful.

Exciting activity

 Fishing is allowed, but hunting is not. The resort can accommodate 60-80 people, or you can bring your own tent. There’s a helipad, but I don’t have information on the charges. Right after visiting Shiloe Lake many people often divert their trip till Mount Saramati. Which is just another 2-3 hours of journey from the lake. It is found right in the middle of Phokhungri village.

Shilloi Lake is situated in Lütsam Village of Phokhungri area in Phek district. Originally named Lütsam, which means ‘a place where water is collected’, it was called Shiloh by the British during their rule. Today, it is officially known as Shilloi and is the largest natural lake in Nagaland. Surrounded by pine forests, it is a beautiful valley. Visitors are advised to bring their own uncooked food as there is a kitchen available. Accommodation is provided for up to 60 people, with options for single, double, three, four, and six-bedrooms, suitable for individuals as well as groups. Fishing is also possible, with both nets and hooks available. The average cost per night for a double room ranges from INR200-800, depending on the requirements.

Version 1: The Botanical Garden in Nagaland, maintained by the Forest Department, is a peaceful escape from the town. It is open every day except Sundays. Although the developed area is limited, you can still enjoy various herbal gardens, different types of roses, and indigenous trees. There is also a viewpoint of Kohima town. The garden provides a cool and shaded area with a small ground and a children’s park. You can park your vehicle inside. However, the maintenance of the garden is not up to the mark. There are no nearby restaurants, so it’s better to bring refreshments from the town. It’s an ideal place for nature lovers to explore and take beautiful photos.

The journey from the entry gate of Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary to Chatakpur was truly amazing. It was a dense forest and quite an adventurous trip. The natural attractiveness of the place is exceptional. I highly recommend everyone to visit and enjoy this place. If the weather is good, you can get a clear view of Kanchenjunga. However, there is no check post when you go up the mountain with a car. But when you come down, there is a military check post. They charge around 150 per person if you’re not staying there. If you are staying, they charge 400 for your four-wheeler car and also ask for additional money per person. I suggest you say that you’re not staying there and just came to see the sunrise before leaving. They charge around 1000 if you don’t take a ticket from them, but they give a 50% discount. Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary is always a popular spot for various birds and animals. You can often find rare species among the common ones. Nowadays, the hill partridge and fulvous parrotbill are the highlights. The entry fee for vehicles is 400 and 120 per person. The route is through Sonada. Leopards, bears, deer, wild dogs, monkeys, and foxes can be found there. The road is not in great condition, so be careful when choosing a car. In some places, the forest is so dense that very little light enters. The sight of wildflowers and the view of villages and mountain ranges will surely make your trip memorable.
